When it came to deciding a career, Brett set his gaze on the surf industry, believing that if you work for a surf company, surfing would be part of everyday life...and he was right! Doing whatever he could to work for a surf company, he launched his career by lying to the Art Room Director at Billabong, pretending he knew how to merge data in InDesign to create 300-page catalogs. After 48 hours of research and testing, he presented his findings to Billabong and walked away with a Graphic Design job.
Brett's role at Billabong was an industry MBA for him as he maneuvered through the ranks, first building catalogs and designing t-shirt, boardshort and bikini graphics for the Art Room, then shifting to Marketing where he taught himself web design and coding to work on the website. Being digital-focused, he slipped right into social media marketing at a time when Twitter and Facebook were just emerging.
After a brief stint at the Queensland Government, Brett packed up his young family and moved to California to chase the surf again.
Spending just 364 days at Reef before being offered the role of Global Social Media Director at dynamic start-up Stance Socks, he grew with an amazing team for 3 and a half years. Having worked for only massive corporations, it was refreshing to be more nimble with marketing and have the ability to test and be creative.
Leaving great jobs is difficult, but from a young age, Brett always knew he would start his own business, and he did. He established Social Supply Co. with exceptional clientele, and he continues to grow the business while still finding time to surf.
